Dart. I like the Cruze but it's a bit dated now, it could use a refresh.

I'm ready to see the completely new 2016. The refresh is okay , but a whole new design would be better.

The Jetta is pretty much a very basic A4 now. It's very nice.

That being said, I'd pick the Dart GT. So much curvy Italian goodness.

Well it's not my fault ford built one of the best FWD performance cars ever. I refuse to not choose it. It's both un-oppo and un 'murican. I can betray one of those ridiculous aligences, but not both at the same time!

either the 3 or the jetta. A friend just bought a jetta, interior is way nicer than the competition, and the 5.cylinder is a pretty cool engine.

Honestly, the 3 interior was disappointing, on the last gen at least. Haven't sat in a new one

Kinja'd!!!0

Jetta GLI, Jetta TDI, Jetta 2.5, Jetta 1.8T all work with a stick.

I'd take either a GLI, or an early '13 SEL with a 5-speed.

Throw on an exhaust, a CAI, and a tune, and make that GLI in to a 265hp sports sedan

For the 5-pot, do exhaust and CAI, and you'll basically have an NA GLI, but with softer suspension and longer gears

Kinja'd!!! PS9 > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/12/2014 at 00:41

Kinja'd!!!1

It would still be un 'murican for me to turn my back on the FoST, because no matter where they actually build it, the money - should I opt to buy one - will go straight to Ford. Ford's profit margins will go up and - even if 'muricans didn't design it or whatever - 'muricans definitely manufacture it, and will benefit via the wages they extract from Ford in exchange for the hard working 'murican effort. Retired 'muricans who have stock in Ford will also benefit because more sales -> more margin -> better market performance -> higher share prices. This happens even if non-'muricans in non-'murican countries buy products from and work for Ford.

tl;dr -> Buying a Ford anywhere IS GOOD FOR 'MURICANS EVERYWHERE

(No, I didn't write this just to see how many times I could squeeze the word 'murica' in to one paragraph. I promise.)

We need a *TCC racing series featuring these in sedan form only. No widebody kits. A nice little wing on the back and a chin spoiler up front. Pretty much a current form of the BTCC in the late 90s, the only time anything remotely like stance was acceptable.

That's why I try to get people to go with American cars. The money spent on them goes to the American economy. With the possible exception of the Jetta, literally none of these are sold where I live. The Jetta might be - I think I looked it up once, but I can't remember - but I've still never seen one in person.

So, uh... Mazda, I suppose? I realise it's a rather cliched, European perspective to take, but I've absolutely no idea why you'd have any of them over a similarly-sized hatchback.

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > KirkyV
06/12/2014 at 05:08

Kinja'd!!!0

Of all those ones up there, only 4 of them are offered at hatchbacks in the US of A.

I hate how anti-hatch America is. HATE IT.

Kinja'd!!! KirkyV > PS9
06/12/2014 at 05:11

Kinja'd!!!1

I like the current Focus ST, but I'd hesitate to call it 'one of the best FWD performance cars ever'. For one thing, I'd rather the one they built before it - five cylinder, and better-looking to my eye - and for another, the FWD performance car segment has been one of the most competitive going where I live for about forty years. The Focus is nice, but competition - both contemporary and historical - is a little too stiff for it to rate most 'best ever' lists.

One of the best hot hatches ever offered in the US, though? Certainly.

Kinja'd!!! KirkyV > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/12/2014 at 05:22

Kinja'd!!!0

At least things are getting better: you get the real Focus now, and the Fiesta. If they do well, more are sure to follow. And, hey, there's always a chance they'll eventually dump the 25 year import thing.

I'm glad we'll be getting the Mustang over here from next year. Honestly, it's not really my sort of thing - that Peugeot I posted in our other conversation is pretty much my dream car - but it's great that the option's there. Before, any British Mustang fans had to import, and either drive with the steering wheel on the wrong side, or get a conversion.

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > KirkyV
06/12/2014 at 05:26

Kinja'd!!!0

If Saturn was still around, we'd be getting the Astra VXR over here as the Astra Redline most likely, but alas, no more Saturn.

I really hope someone in the government food chain kills that law. The want I have to bring over a previous generation Focus ST 3-door is so strong.

Kinja'd!!! KirkyV > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/12/2014 at 05:32

Kinja'd!!!0

I've never really liked the Astra, honestly. The most recent one's a good-looking car, and I've heard that the VXR's actually - in a surprise move for Vauxhall/Opel - quite fun to drive, but... Well, it's a Vauxhall. Ewwww.

Kinja'd!!!

Anyway, yeah, the post-facelift Mark 2 Focus ST 3-door is, to my eye, the best-looking Focus ever made.

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > KirkyV
06/12/2014 at 05:36

Kinja'd!!!0

Is that really how people feel about Vauxhall over there? I thought that was just a joke Top Gear always made.

Yes, that Focus right there is what I want, but in black. Seriously good looking car. A lot better than the current fish-face.

Kinja'd!!! duurtlang > KirkyV
06/12/2014 at 05:37

Kinja'd!!!1

I agree with your sedan comment. Compact and sedan? Does not compute. Especially with the word 'mainstream' added to it. We get more options than you guys in the UK, but that doesn't mean people actually buy them.

I'm residing in Germany currently, and I do have to admit I've seen a few Mustangs here. The vast majority convertibles due to the nice weather, and only the mid 1960s Mustang and the 2005+ Mustang.

Kinja'd!!! KirkyV > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/12/2014 at 05:48

Kinja'd!!!1

It depends on the person, naturally. They sell well enough, so there must be people out there who like them, but I, personally, have never really seen a reason to pick a Vauxhall over its competitors. They're never the best to drive, or the most reliable, or the most comfortable, or the most practical—they're just sort of 'eh'.

Kinja'd!!!

I'd have it in blurple, myself.

Kinja'd!!! KirkyV > duurtlang
06/12/2014 at 05:57

Kinja'd!!!0

It's an awkward body style. For practicality, you want either a hatch or an estate; if you're going to sacrifice some of that practicality for the sake of aesthetics, you might as well do it properly, and get a coupe.

I suspect there are probably more Mustangs over there than there are here; the hassle of either driving with the steering wheel on the other side, or getting an aftermarket conversion, dissuades a lot of people. Still, those few I have seen have been either '60s classics, or post-2005 models. Generally coupes, though; rain and all that. (I still don't really understand how the whole 'British roadster' thing even happened.)

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > PS9

Kinja'd!!!0

Every now and then a rumor of a souped up sonic hits the sonic owners forum. Fingers crossed the 2016 refresh gets an SS, or at least the RS gets a bigger motor. Chevy has plenty of motors to choose from, and they've got plenty of people that could develop a proper chassis and suspension. The RS suspension isn't bad anyways, and it was tuned by a Corvette Racing engineer.

I'd like to see Chevy go insane and at least make a concept RS powered by an LS motor, sort of like how VW has the GTI powered by an R8 engine.

I don't wanna be that guy, but: Renault Laguna is classified above compacts, Renault's compact would be the Megane. Also, none of its generations were available as sedan, the open rear hatch offers access to the cabin, thus making it a liftback at best.

And my ex's father drove one, and it broke down constantly. That was after he traded in his Renault Espace, due to breaking down constantly. They had another Laguna before that, which... you guessed it. I think Renault offers some amazing old-for-new deals. :)

That was the only picture of the BTCC from the late 90s I could get to link properly.

I think you're right that the categorization is different, but I think model bloat means that the cars above are pretty similar in size to what used to be called 'mid-sized', and was raced in the BTCC.

Kinja'd!!! Forgetful > Eazy-O
06/12/2014 at 17:08

Kinja'd!!!0

Also, the next size up in sedans would be Fusion, SS, Camry, and that's NASCAR and V8 Supercars size, which is too big.

Kinja'd!!! Eazy-O > Forgetful
06/12/2014 at 18:58

Kinja'd!!!0

Fair enough on the pic. :)

There is some model bloat, though I've gone through some specs and they're not quite up there yet. But I wasn't saying you should go next up in size, just that Renault offered the smaller Megane in the class suggested by the topic's author.

It is one of the more hideous sedans, though. Renault just can't seem to get the butts right.
